2021 Crossfit Games Athletes Body Mass Index (BMI)

In case you didn’t already know, almost every athlete competing for the title of fittest on Earth at the Crossfit Games is overweight…according to BMI standards.

BMI takes into account a person’s height and weight, while it’s biggest disadvantage is that it doesn’t account for muscle mass.

BMI REFERENCE

  • 19-24: NORMAL
  • 25-29: OVERWEIGHT
  • 30-39: OBESE
  • 40+: EXTREMELY OBESE

And fun fact for you, 5x champion Mat Fraser is considered not just overweight, but OBESE with a BMI of 30.

We obviously don’t agree with the BMI standards, but we thought it would be interesting to take a look anyway.

Below we have calculated the BMI of all 40 men and women individual competitors at the 2021 Crossfit Games.

rogue dumbbells

According to the BMI standards every man that competed at the 2021 Games would be considered overweight and 5 of them would be considered obese.

Interestingly enough only 20/38 of the women (53%) would be considered overweight and none obese.

Again, BMI doesn’t measure muscle mass, but at the very least it might be a good indicator that you need to be a bit heavier than you think in order to compete at the highest levels of Crossfit, and this likely comes down to necessary strength.
