5 Best Crossfit Grips 2018

All of the grips included in this list provide excellent non-slip control on the bar as well as great protection against hand tears and rips.

In this list however we are going to look at the primary features of each individual product to truly determine what separates one from another.

Reviews and ratings were collected from Rogue Fitness, Amazon, and each individual company website for most consistent results.

1. Pebble Grain Roogrips

Pebble Grain Roogrips

The highest rated Crossfit grips of 2018 are probably from a brand you haven’t yet heard of, but appreciate this hidden gem right now as this brand out of Australia is sure to become a staple in the Crossfit community in the near future.

The primary feature that separates these grips from all others is the textured, pebble grain surface made out of Kangaroo leather.

With the grained surface there is more friction on the bar and more chalk retention allowing for an elite grip. This friction proves to be quite useful when you need to hold on for touch-and-go reps on a barbell.

An added benefit to the Roogrips is that they just feel great in your hand. They’re not rough or stiff but instead they fit comfortably in your palm and have just enough thickness to protect you from tearing while still delivering a phenomenal grip.

Out of the 36 reviews for the Roogrips on roguefitness.com 29 of those are five stars.

Specifications:

  • Made from special blend of oils and quality Kangaroo Leather
  • Finger Holes: 2
  • Textured, Pebble Grain surface
  • Custom hook-and-loop wrist strap
  • Color: Brown w/ Black wrist strap

PROS

  • Textured surface
  • Durable leather
  • Perfect thickness (not thin but not too thick)
  • Natural feel

CONS

  • Price

I bought these about a month ago and am so glad I did! I had continual problems in the gym with grip strength and my hands sweating that I couldn’t hold onto the bar to save my life. I even use them for barbell lifting and kettlebells and they are truly a life saver! I notice so much difference in how long and how heavy I am able to lift because of the added grip these give me. 100% recommend spending the money on these!

2. Rogue V2 Gymnastics Grips

Rogue V2 Gymnastics Grips

The Rogue V2 Gymnastics Grips have a simple, yet effective design that has been proven to last through many brutal workouts. They are also one of the most popular grips on the market.

These grips are most well known for their durability as most users state that they have used the same pair for over a year with no defects. The primary reason behind this is due to the thick American made leather and the solid stitching between the leather palm protector and the wrist strap.

A couple added benefits to the V2 is that they break in very quickly and since they are from Rogue they ship your order the same day in case you need them in a hurry.

The V2 also happens to be one of the most inexpensive grips on the market making it one of the best values for your money.

Specifications:

  • Textured American leather
  • Hook-and-loop strap
  • Finger holes: 2
  • Color: gray

PROS

  • Inexpensive
  • Extremely durable
  • American made
  • Thick leather

CONS

  • Wrist strap may dig in sometimes

I was destroying my hands WOD after WOD. These grips are a huge help. I noticed people complaining about the buckle digging in, but I haven’t had any issues. Highly recommended!

3. JAW Grips

Jaw Grips

These grips may not look like much, but they definitely exceed expectations.

Unlike most other grips on the market made from leather, JAW Grips are made from a light weight that is used for both the palm protector and the wrist strap. Because of this JAW Grips have a pretty naked feel and a lot of versatility.

Since the wrist straps are fabric connected by velcro they are perfect to use for movements like handstand pushups and muscle ups where a hook and loop strap would most likely dig into your skin.

What separates these grips apart from competitors is how great they feel on a barbell. Since the fabric is thin and covers only the middle of your hand it allows you to maintain a solid grip not only on a pull-up bar but also on a barbell.

With other grips you often see people take them off when moving on to other movements, but with JAW grips you should realistically leave these on for the entire workout no matter what you’re doing.

Specifications:

  • Lightweight fabric grip
  • Velcro wrist strap
  • Finger holes: 2
  • Color: many

PROS

  • Inexpensive
  • Comfortable and lightweight
  • Great barbell grip
  • Thin fabric
  • Versatile

CONS

  • Doesn’t last as long as thicker leather grips

THE BEST HAND PROTECTION FOR CROSSFIT! Minimal bulk so there’s no excess fabric between you and the Barbell or the pull-up bar; they’re excellent for any kind of Barbell work and almost act a slight wrist wrap (I’m not a fan of wrist wraps, but these are just slight and perfect). When doing pull-ups, chest to bar or bar muscles ups on any kind of coated bar, like a Speal bar, these stick instead of slipping. I haven’t ripped my hands in years.

4. WODies Grips

WODies woven grips

One of the most debated Crossfit grips available, Wodies are either loved or hated among people who have used them.

Another 3-finger hole grip, these grips are the most glove-like out of any on this list. They not only come with a wide palm protection but also with a thick built in wrist strap, acting as a multiple use product.

A lot of people like to wear wrist straps when doing overhead movements such as jerks or snatches because of the sheer pressure on the wrist, and they also want a great hold on the bar so they add a lot of chalk to their hands because a wrist strap over a hand grip is often uncomfortable. Wodies solve both of these problems.

These grips are perfect for a barbell cycling workout like DT where you need to maintain grip for deadlifts and hang cleans, but want wrist protection on the push jerks.

A primary feature of these grips is the material that they are made out of. Made with woven elastic, the grip is flexible and won’t bunch up but it may also take more chalk than usual to get them broken in.

Since the wrist strap is connected to the palm protector and wrapped around the base of the wrist theres not a constant pull on the stitching. These grips will practically never come apart.

Specifications:

  • Woven Elastic – Hypo-allergenic and Latex-free
  • Wrist Support
  • Padded Palm Protection
  • Customizable finger hole slits
  • Chalk absorbent for better grip

PROS

  • Wide palm protection
  • Flexible and comfortable padding
  • 2-in-1 product
  • Retains chalk longer

CONS

  • Price
  • Slippery without chalk

Could not be happier with this purchase. What I love is that they have so much flexibility, which I found leather doesn’t. Now I can go from the pull up bar to the barbell, hspu, front rack and never have to take them off. The wrist support is great and I think the grip is excellent. At first they felt a bit slippery but after a few workouts they get really nice.

5. Bear Komplex Grips

Bear Komplex Grips

Possibly the thickest pair of Crossfit grips on the market, you should never even get close to ripping your hands with these on.

The Bear Komplex grips are rated number 5 only because some of the other competitors have a better hold on a pull-up bar, but if your grip is solid and your main focus is preventing your hands from tearing there is no better product available than these.

Since these are 3 finger-hole grips, more of your palm is covered than the common 2-hole, providing a lot more protection even for the sides of your hands where some people tend to rip on ring muscle ups.

Another new material to this list, Bear Komplex grips are made with a strong and firm carbon fiber material rather than leather or fabric. Because of this they take a couple of uses to break in but once you do they are a fantastic pair of grips especially for very high rep gymnastics workouts.

The carbon fiber material is practically going to never come apart so after purchasing a pair of these you should be fine for at least a year.

Specifications:

  • Patented Carbon Fiber Design
  • Finger Holes: 3
  • Custom hook-and-loop wrist strap
  • Color: Black & Orange

PROS

  • Wide palm protection
  • Thick carbon fiber material
  • Great for high rep gymnastics
  • Elite durability

CONS

  • Price
  • Have to break in
