Here’s What It Would Look Like If Crossfit Had Weight Classes

Yesterday the official Crossfit Games Instagram page published a post explaining their reasoning behind why they don’t separate athletes by weight classes such as mixed martial arts or boxing.

Their statement:

“Nature has no regard for your weight.

Fitness is about task accomplishment — your ability to do work.

A very small number of sports settle into a kind of natural stratification, where it’s arguably unfair for an athlete with less mass to perform against one much larger (e.g., weightlifting and fighting). Most sport — and certainly ours — is not that way. Neither the heaviest athletes nor the lightest have an unfair competitive advantage.

An appeal to have weight classes in @CrossFit merely would be an appeal to have more opportunities for trophies or an allowance for a lack of capacity (strength, speed, stamina, power, etc.). The @NBA doesn’t have a short league. Track and field doesn’t have a Clydesdale division. Only the sports in which outliers would have an unfair advantage segment their elite competition by weight, and that is exceedingly rare.”

So out of curiosity we wanted to know what Crossfit would look like if it did in fact have weight classes.

Below we separated the top 40 individual males and females at the 2019 Crossfit Games by weight class to see what the results would look like.
