In the short span of only 6 years Mattie Rogers went from her weightlifting debut to now being the most popular and well known weightlifter on Earth.
In 2016 she narrowly missed out on qualifying for the summer Olympics, but was however awarded that year’s best overall lifter.
So how did Rogers go from unknown to the face of weightlifting so quickly? It was a mix of talent and a marketable personality.
Below we will look at the social stats and global interest of Mattie Rogers compared to other well known weightlifters, in order to prove her rank as most popular.
Global Interest and Social Reach
The 5 athletes we will be comparing are Mattie Rogers, Dmitry Klokov, Lasha Talakhadze, Katherine Nye, and Sonny Webster.
Global Interest
In order to judge global interest we plugged each athlete into Google Trends and compared their interest over time for the past 12 months.
Interest Over Time: Numbers represent search interest relative to the highest point on the chart for the given region and time. A value of 100 is the peak popularity for the term. A value of 50 means that the term is half as popular. A score of 0 means there was not enough data for this term.
