Rich Froning and Scott Panchik Live Open Announcement Records

It has officially been announced that Crossfit legends Rich Froning and Scott Panchik will be kicking off the 2020 Crossfit season when they go head to head during Open 20.1 on October 10th.

Both athletes have competed in four live Open announcements throughout the years but surprisingly never against one another.

Let’s take a look at how they have done throughout the years.

13.5 vs Jason Khalipa

  • AMRAP 4+
  • 3 ROUNDS: 15 Thrusters (100#), 15 Chest to bar pull-ups
  • If 3 rounds are completed under 4 minutes, time extends to 8 minutes.
    If 6 rounds are completed under next 4 minutes, time extends to 12 minutes, etc.

RESULT: Froning wins 226 to 169 reps


14.5 vs Sam Briggs, Annie Thorisdottir, Graham Holmberg, Jason Khalipa

  • FOR TIME

  • Thrusters (95#), Bar facing burpees

RESULT: Froning wins at 8:26, Briggs 2nd at 8:31, Khalipa 9:35, Holmberg 10:20, Thorisdottir 11:04

  • Two Parts in 15 minutes
    (15.1) AMRAP in 9 minutes
    15 Toes-to-Bars
    10 Deadlifts (115/75 lb)
    5 Snatches (115/75 lb)

    Then (“15.1A”), from 9:00-15:00
    1-Rep-Max Clean-and-Jerk

RESULTS: Froning wins 15.1 with 224 reps compared to Fraser’s 221. Froning wins 15.1a at 343lbs compared to Fraser’s 327.


16.5 vs Mat Fraser, Ben Smith

  • FOR TIME

    Thrusters (95#), Bar facing burpees

RESULT: Fraser wins 8:06, Froning 8:41, Smith 9:06

*Froning’s only live Open announcement loss.

RESULT: Panchik wins 194 to 190 reps
