Which Elite Crossfit Program Improved The Most In The Last Year

Guest post by BrownKiwi

With the growing popularity of training camps, tracking the main training camp athletes each year is going to produce some interesting data. Not only does it provide insight into the best  programs and coaches, it also provides fans the opportunity to root for their favourite camps, not just their favourite individuals. For example, if you follow the Comptrain program from anywhere in the world, you now have a group of athletes that you will no doubt want to see do well.

Judging camp performance cannot be done by looking at one year’s performance, that only tells you who has the best athletes at the time. We need to look at year on year, see which camps are improving their athletes vs. who are static or going backwards. As the years roll on, we will keep tracking and the picture will become clearer, we may even find a particular camp starts dominating.

About the data

Athletes were only listed if both year’s performance data was available. Those who suffered injuries in open and games have been included as injuries are somewhat within the athletes/ coaches control, they are very rarely ‘luck’. For example, Brooke Wells changed her, coach, camp, volume and came into the games with a sleeve already on her elbow. These factors indicate causation rather than coincidence, not a knock at her camp which may be great, just what the data indicates.

Of course programs with more athletes may have more variability, but the goal is here to compare the athlete to their previous self. Instead of comparing program to program look at how each athlete in each program increased or decreased from the previous year.

Overall everything here stayed pretty consistent, but unfortunately we weren’t able to see Kari Pearce of Bethany Shadburne from Underdog, and Brooke Wells got injured.

We will be tracking more of this data in the future, and look forward to sharing the results with you.
