3 Events We Could Likely See At The 2023 CrossFit Games

Although the programming at the CrossFit Games is always unknown and unknowable as is true to all of CrossFit, we do in fact have a few ideas as to which events may show up this year.

Based on past events, as well as taking into account movements that haven’t showed up in a while, we have compiled a list of 3 events we could likely see at the 2023 CrossFit Games.

1. A 1-Rep Max Clean and Jerk

There are a couple reasons why we believe a 1-Rep Max Clean and Jerk will show up this year.

  • Since this year’s Semifinals included a 1-Rep Max Snatch, the programming team likely will not want to repeat it
  • The max lift last year was a sandbag, and the year before that was another 1-Rep Max Snatch
  • In 2019 there was a 1RM clean, but not a clean and jerk
  • There has not been a 1RM clean and jerk at the Games since 2015

If this event does get programmed we predict the winning lift to be 375lbs or higher.

2. New Handstand Walk Course

Although there was a mini handstand walk course as a part of last year’s event “Skill Speed Medley“, we expect to see much longer course this year with new obstacles.

Part of it even may involve holding a freestanding handstand hold for a certain amount of time before moving on.

New obstacles we could see:

  • higher stairs
  • freestanding handstand pushups (calisthenics style)
  • shoulder taps

3. 5k run with a weighted vest

There have not been many long weighted running events at the CrossFit Games and we believe that this may be the year they add another one in.

Each year has featured more and more running at the Games and this time it is likely to be completed with the addition of a 20lb vest for men and a 14lb vest for women.

Even some of the contenders for the podium are not great runners, so this event would truly shake up the leaderboard.

These are just 3 of our predictions for this year’s Games, but we’re likely to see something even more unexpected than what we have listed here.
