2023 Fittest Woman on Earth Laura Horvath has been an interesting character ever since she broke onto the scene at the CrossFit Games in 2018.

But many people don’t know much about her life outside of CrossFit, so we decided to do the research and put together a list of the top 5 most interesting, but unknown facts about Laura Horvath.

1. Laura Horvath was a Hungarian Rock Climbing Champion

Laura Horvath’s athletic journey began with rock climbing, where she achieved significant success. She won national titles in Hungary and represented her country in European youth competitions.

2.Laura Horvath was Introduced to CrossFit by Her Brother

Laura’s introduction to CrossFit came through her elder brother Kristof in 2014.

Initially using CrossFit to complement her climbing training, she quickly fell in love with the sport and in 2015, she competed in her first CrossFit competition at the Central European Throwdown, finishing fourth.

Her rapid progress in the sport led her to compete in her first Open in 2015, where she finished 25th in Hungary.

By 2017, she achieved her breakthrough, coming second in the Dubai Fitness Championship behind Annie Thorisdottir. Her family’s support and her brother’s influence played a crucial role in her CrossFit journey.

3. Laura Horvath is a National Record Holder in Weightlifting

In March 2023, Laura Horvath competed in the Savaria Cup weightlifting competition, winning the 76kg category with a lift of 117 kg in clean and jerk and an 89kg snatch.

This achievement not only earned her a victory but also improved the Hungarian national record by 1 kg (total 206 kg).

That Clean and Jerk number was surpassed at the 2023 CrossFit Games where she famously hit 265lbs (120kg) to win the “Oly Total” event.

4. Laura Horvath was the first Hungarian Woman ever at the CrossFit Games

Laura’s participation in the 2018 CrossFit Games was a historic moment for Hungarian sports, as she became the first Hungarian woman to reach the Games.

Along with this accomplishment she finished at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the first day and by winning her first-ever event, “The Battleground”, on the second day she became the first Hungarian athlete, male or female, to win an event at the CrossFit Games.

She eventually finished in second place, beating Katrin Davidsdottir for the position and earning the title of “Rookie of the Year.”

5. Triumphant Return to the Podium

After facing setbacks in 2019 and 2020, where she failed to make the top 10 in the CrossFit Games, Laura made significant changes to her training regimen. She changed programs to train with former champion Ben Smith, focusing on improving her weaknesses.

Her efforts paid off as she returned to the podium in 2021, coming second behind Tia-Clair Toomey. In 2022, she climbed back up the leaderboard to finish third, and in 2023, she captured her first title at the Games.
