How Fast Is The World’s Strongest Man?

In a recent video uploaded by Martins Licis we got an insight into just how explosive big men can be.

2019 World’s Strongest Man and 2nd place finisher at the 2019 Arnold Strongman Classic Martins Licis measures in at 6’3 355 pounds, about the same size of an NFL lineman.

For a sample of his strength he recently did 12 reps of a bent over row at 405 pounds.

In the video Licis tests his speed in both the 20 yard shuttle sprint and the 40 yard dash, the same tests that are used in the NFL combine, except Licis tested his on the sand in Santa Monica.

He also just finished a workout previous to his sprint tests.

20 Yard Shuttle Sprint

* 3 cones are set up, 1 at the start, 1 at 5 yards, and 1 at 10 yards. You start in the middle at the 5 yard mark, run to the right cone, run all the way to the left cone and then turn back and finish again at the 5 yard marker.

At the 2019 NFL Combine the fastest times for offensive lineman were in the 4.40-4.50 second range while a total of 36 of the offensive lineman were timed under 5 seconds.

Before we go over Licis’ times we want to point out that our recorded times are unofficial since there were no laser timers on the beach where the tests were conducted. Sprints were hand-timed.

Martins Licis ran 3 times (in the sand), his unofficial times were:

  • 5.36
  • 5.44
  • 5.86

His fastest times were around 1 second slower than the NFL offensive lineman, which is not bad considering he doesn’t train for these tests as they have and he was in sand which dramatically slows times.

40 Yard Dash

*All out sprint from dead-stop through 40 yards.

At the 2019 NFL Combine the fastest time for an offensive lineman was 4.89 while the slowest was 5.41.

Martins Licis ran twice (in the sand), his unofficial times were:

  • 4.98
  • 5.27

Again, although these times are not entirely accurate they can still be considered impressive considering Licis weighs over 350 pounds and lacks sprint training.

These times would still likely be as fast or faster than the average non-athlete that weighs much less.

Strength = explosive power.
