Although today was the first time we’ve heard of it, this new challenge has grown in searches on Google by 1,800% in the past month, and will probably continue to grow as summer approaches.
Everesting.
Everesting is an activity in which cyclists ascend and descend a given hill multiple times, in order to have cumulatively climbed 8,848 meters / 29,029 feet. (Without sleeping)
For reference, the highest mountain in North America is Denali at 6,190 meters / 20,308 feet.
And the highest in Europe is Mount Elbrus at 5,642 meters / 18,511 feet.
Scores
The current record for the cycling version is 6 hours 40 minutes, and 54 seconds, which actually doesn’t sound that bad.
The running record is 11 hours 17 minutes
- Interestingly, both of these records are held by Irishmen (Ronan Mc Laughlin – Cycling) / (Ian Bailey – Running)
This seems like quite a brutal challenge to be so popular, but maybe with many gyms still closed around the world this is a nice way to spend a weekend outside.
