TYR vs NoBull vs Nike: Best Olympic WeightLifting Shoes of 2023

Now that TYR is exploding onto the Crossfit landscape and into boxes around the world, have they also happened to make the best olympic weightlifting shoes?

Could it be true that their lifting shoes are simply just much better than the classics, or are Nike and NoBull still the superior options?

Let’s take a look at some of the features of each brand and try to find out. Below we’ll be looking at:

  • Design
  • Special Features
  • Price
  • Other Notes

Let’s begin.

TYR Weightlifting Shoes

The most notable, as well as most important difference between the TYR lifting shoes and the others is the wide toe area, which makes the shoes much more comfortable and natural.

This is such a simple feature, but makes a huge difference in comfort and stability when lifting, especially if you train for multiple hours per day. It’s a surprise that other brands have not thought of this before.

Squat University founder Aaron Horschig even recommends these as his favorite lifting shoes for a healthy foot and a solid base for squatting.

Other than that the shoes are pretty similar to all other options on the market and the style isn’t anything game changing, but since most people get black or white anyway, it may not matter.

Overall these lifters would definitely give you everything you’re looking for, and they are slowly becoming the preferred shoe of many lifters.

Heel height: 21 millimeters (2.5mm higher than NoBull)

Price

$199 per pair. This is a pretty common price for olympic weightlifting shoes and are $100 cheaper than NoBull lifters.

NoBull Weightlifting Shoes

If style is your top priority than this is likely the obvious choice. It would be hard to find better looking weightlifting shoes than these.

Due to the fact that they are made with leather these lifters have been reported to be very comfortable with a nice cushion for the back of your heel and toes.

Heel height: 18.5 millimeters

2 negatives that have been mentioned about the heel however, is that it is too low for some lifters (only 18.5mm) and that the wood takes some getting used to.

If you have great mobility and like a bit shorter heel than these actually may be perfect for you.

Price

$299 per pair. Although they are exceptionally well manufactured this is still a steep price.

Nike Weightlifting Shoes

In terms of style and design I would make the claim that these are the best looking weightlifting shoes that come in white, especially if you get one of the newer models like shown in the photo above.

When it comes to function Nike made a great decision by making the heel wider in order to help with stabilization and to have the feeling of a strong base like you’re glued to the ground. If they had a wide toe area as well it would be interesting to see how these lifters would feel.

One benefit of these weightlifting shoes that the other 2 above don’t have is the ability to try them on and see them in person. It is practically impossible to find TYR or NoBull lifting shoes anywhere in stores, but many Nike stores carry at least one type of lifting shoe for you to try.

Nike lifting shoes also go through a lot more testing and updates compared to the other options above, thanks to their large number of sponsored athletes in sports other than Crossfit/Weightlifiting that also take advantage of these shoes.

Heel height: Romaleos – .75 / Savaleos – .6

Price: $119-$199 per pair. If you get an older version of the Savaleos you may be able to find them for about $119, but newer models of all types will cost around $200.

If you look around most gyms Nike is probably still the most popular option of weightlifting shoe, but TYRs are definitely the option that is currently trending the most in the market.

NoBulls are not quite as popular as the other two, but they definitely stand out when you see them.

Since they all cost about the same price your choice should be determined primarily by the comfortability and design of your preference.
