Tia-Clair Toomey of course is most well known for her extreme dominance in the sport of CrossFit as the best female athlete of all time, but there’s also a lot more to her that is much lesser known.

1) She was born in a town with a population of only 11,000 people
Tia-Clair Toomey was born in 1993 in an Australian town called Nambour, Queensland, which only has a population of 11,187 according to their 2016 consensus.
Since Toomey was born there 30 years ago, the population of the city was likely even below 10,000 at the time of her birth.
2) Before CrossFit she wanted to become a nurse or a dentist
Before fully committing to her athletic career, Toomey had aspirations to become a nurse.
After finishing grammar school in 2011, Toomey studied nursing at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. However, she left after six months and moved to Gladstone to be with her future husband and coach Shane Orr.
There she worked for a time as a dental assistant, and then as a lab technician at a Rio Tinto facility.
3) Toomey was in a Super Bowl commercial in 2021
During Super Bowl LV in 2021 Tia-Clair Toomey was included along with other Crossfit athlete Josh Bridges in an Oikos Pro Yogurt commercial that aired during the Super Bowl.
If you don’t remember seeing them in a commercial during the game, it’s because this specific commercial was only featured in the live-stream online version, not on broadcast network television unfortunately.

4) She competed at the Olympics in 2016
At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Tia-Clair Toomey represented her home country Australia in the 58kg weightlifting category.
She ended up hitting an 82kg snatch and a 107kg clean and jerk for a total score of 189kg.
She ultimately finished 14th overall in the competition.
5) She almost made the Australian Olympic Bobsled team
In December 2020, Tia-Clair Toomey revealed her intention to join the Australian bobsleigh team and aim for qualification in the 2022 Winter Olympics in China. She made her bobsled competition debut in South Korea in February 2021, securing victories in two races as the brakewoman of a two-woman bobsled team.
Although her team qualified for the Winter Olympics in January 2022, they were not chosen to represent Australia.
This decision was based on regulations stipulating that the same driver must be used for both the new monobob event and the two-woman team. As a result, monobob driver Bree Walker was selected and favored.
