The Decline of Crossfit.com Since The 2019 Changes

Before Greg Glassman (CEO of Crossfit Inc.) implemented all of the changes that came with the 2019 season Crossfit as a sport was becoming more popular than ever.

Open participation was consistently increasing year over year, Regionals attendance was growing, and Crossfit’s + Crossfit Games’ social media profiles totaled about 14,135,000 followers/fans across all platforms.

Now the Open really only matters for the #1 fittest person in their nation and about the top 30 ranked fittest people in the world and Regionals are gone. Crossfit Inc. has also dwindled their massive social media following to 3,135,000 by getting rid of Facebook and Instagram.

So how has all of this affected Crossfit.com?

Since the last week of this year’s Open Crossfit.com has dropped over 10,000 ranks according to Alexa.com.

A few likely reasons for these declines:

  • 59,000 fewer athletes registered for the Open from 2018 meaning 59,000 less people cared about the leaderboard as much and likely visited less frequently.
  • No Regionals leaderboard to stay updated on.
  • Sanctionals streaming has been mediocre at best and Sanctionals leaderboard is not up to date. (No leaderboard information for Australian Crossfit Championship, Reykjavik Crossfit Championship, or Rogue Invitational).
  • Incoming traffic from social media massively reduced.

Greg Glassman has repeatedly stated that he does not care much about the Crossfit Games and he has definitely proven that with his actions.

In dwindling Crossfit’s social media and online presence in general, Glassman however is losing the ability to reach his target audience and get his health-centered message across.

What do you think of the changes?
